Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, the Armani Group announced on September 4, 2025. The company confirmed that Armani passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.
In a statement, the Armani Group expressed its “infinite sorrow,” describing him as the brand’s “creator, founder, and tireless driving force” who continued working until his final days.
Born in 1934 in Piacenza, Italy, Armani began his career in fashion in the 1960s and launched his own label in 1975. Over the decades, he became one of the most influential designers in the world, renowned for his minimalist style and elegant tailoring. His creations redefined fashion in the 1980s, making him a global icon.
The Armani brand expanded far beyond clothing, reaching into haute couture, ready-to-wear, fragrances, accessories, hotels, and restaurants — turning his name into a symbol of luxury worldwide.
His death comes just weeks before the planned 50th anniversary of the Armani fashion house, which was to be celebrated at Milan Fashion Week.
According to the company, a funeral chamber will be set up at the Armani/Teatro in Milan this weekend, followed by a private funeral in line with Armani’s wishes.
Armani remained the CEO and sole shareholder of his fashion empire at the time of his passing, leaving questions about the future of the brand. However, reports indicate he had prepared a succession plan involving close collaborators and family.
Giorgio Armani leaves behind a legacy that reshaped global fashion and built one of the most successful luxury brands in history.
